Valentine’s Day in quarantineβ¦ As if some of us already weren’t feeling lonely enough. With the much-dreaded Hallmark holiday around the corner, many of us are trying to figure out how to celebrate. Especially in the middle of a pandemic. Whether you’re on a mandated lockdown or voluntarily self-isolating, there are a few ways you can safely celebrate Valentine’s Day in quarantine. Keep scrolling for some ideas!
8 Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day in Quarantine

1. Host your own paint night.
One way to celebrate Valentine’s Day in quarantine is by hosting your own paint night. Either with your significant other, your housemates, or your close group of friends. While continuing to follow social distancing protocols, of course.
You can stop by Michaels, Jo-Ann, or your local art supply store and pick up some paint, brushes, and canvases. Then stop by your nearest market or liquor store and stock up on your favorite wine. Some of my favorites include the MΓ©nage Γ Trois Red Blend, Kendall Jackson’s Chardonnay, and Stella Rosa Rosso.
Drink up and try to re-create your favorite masterpiece! But make sure you drink responsibly.
2. Have a rom-com movie marathon.
Next, you could celebrate Valentine’s Day by having a rom-com movie marathon. Single or not, rom-coms always give me a feel-good laugh. And sometimes a feel-good cry when I need it. The cheesier and more predictable, the better! Some of my favorite romantic comedies are:
- The Proposal
- To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
- Always Be My Maybe
- 10 Things I Hate About You
- Clueless
- The Wedding Singer
- 13 Going on 30
- Crazy Rich Asians
So pop some popcorn, turn on Netflix, and find your next favorite rom-com!
3. Host a Galentine’s Day brunch.
As Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation said:
February 14, Valentine’s Day, is about celebrating romance. But February 13, Galentine’s Day, is about celebrating lady friends!

To celebrate Galentine’s Day, you could host a brunch while following social distancing protocols. Invite your closest gal pals over for avocado toast and bottomless mimosas.
Make it more festive by planning games and activities. You and your friends could exchange gifts. Or you can go around and express what you admire about each other. After all, Galentine’s Day is about celebrating and uplifting your lady friends.
4. Make chocolate-covered strawberries.
If you have a sweet tooth, you can safely celebrate Valentine’s Day in quarantine by making chocolate-covered strawberries at home. On special occasions, my boyfriend and I will spend time together making them. Not to mention, it’s a lot easier when you have two people.
Usually, we buy a 2-pound box of fresh strawberries, two bags of Nestle chocolate chips, and vegetable shortening. Typically, we use Crisco!
You will also need bamboo skewers, a baking tray, baking paper, a cooking pot, a glass mixing bowl like the Pyrex ones, and a whisk to stir the melted chocolate.
Here’s how we use teamwork to make chocolate covered strawberries:
- Wash the strawberries.
- Pick out the largest strawberries to dip in chocolate. The smaller ones will be for snacking!
- Let the strawberries dry.
- Fill a pot halfway with water.
- Start to boil the water.
- Pour the chocolate chips into the glass mixing bowl.
- Place the glass mixing bowl over the cooking pot.
- Line the baking tray with baking paper.
- As the chocolate begins to melt, add shortening to emulsify the chocolate chips. You should also remember to keep stirring the chocolate and watch the water, as it tends to solidify over time.
- Insert the skewers into the strawberries, starting at the top.
- Dip the strawberries into the chocolate.
- Remove the skewer from the strawberry and place it on the baking tray.
- Repeat steps 9-11 until you have chocolate-covered strawberries to indulge in!
- Enjoy your chocolate covered strawberries and share them with loved ones.
5. Cook your favorite meal together.
Another thing my boyfriend and I enjoy doing together is cooking and learning new recipes. Some of our favorites include spaghetti from scratch, New York steak with broccolini and steamed mussels with white wine. On our days off together, we also enjoy cooking breakfast items like eggs, bacon, and hash browns.
Whatever your favorite foods are, it’s a fun experience cooking together. You definitely learn how to effectively communicate with each other in the kitchen. Also, you learn how to share responsibilities with each other.
So find your favorite recipe and heat things up in the kitchen!

6. Bake a heart-shaped pizza.
If you haven’t found a mutual favorite meal to cook together, you can never go wrong with pizza! You can also bake it alone or for your roommates. Because who doesn’t love pizza?
And to get into the mood, you can bake a heart-shaped pizza with your choice of toppings. My favorite toppings include pepperoni, salami, mozzarella cheese, olives, banana peppers, bell peppers, chopped garlic, and mushrooms.
Or you can try to bake some classics such as:
- pepperoni
- vegetarian
- all meat
- all cheese
- Hawaiian
- Margherita
- Sicilian
Don’t forget to wash it all down with some beer. Because what’s a better combo than pizza and beer?
7. Treat yourself or each other to a spa day.
Another way to celebrate Valentine’s Day is by treating yourself or each other to a spa day. If you’re not comfortable going to a public spa, you can bring the spa home.
Some simple at-home spa activities include:
- doing face masks
- applying a hair mask
- soaking in the tub with some bath salts or bath bombs
- giving each other full-body massages
- getting a manicure and pedicure
While you do these at-home spa activities, don’t forget to turn on the diffuser and play some relaxing music. You deserve to be spoiled to a spa treatment!
8. Celebrate a coinciding holiday such as Lunar New Year or President’s Day.
And if Valentine’s Day isn’t your cup of tea, you can celebrate other holidays happening this weekend! Those other holidays include Lunar New Year and President’s Day.
To celebrate Lunar New Year, you can learn about the different cultures that partake in the holiday. Not only is Lunar New Year celebrated in China. According to People Magazine, it’s also observed by other East Asian countries such as Vietnam, South Korea, and Singapore.
Alternatively, you can celebrate President’s Day. There are plenty of sales you can shop for during the long weekend. You can also brush up on your knowledge and watch some movies or documentaries about your favorite president.
Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day, Lunar New Year, or President’s Day, there are plenty of safe, social distance activities to do this long weekend.

How many beautiful ideas! I love especially the first one, so romantic. I spend the day with my best friend. We tried to cook something together and then we saw a film. Unfortunately during quarantine there is not so many things to do, but the most important thing it’s with whom doing them:)
