Spring is finally here. You know what that means… It’s time to deep clean everything! As I’ve mentioned many times before, I’m making a move towards a minimalist lifestyle. I’m slowly (but surely) decluttering my entire life and that includes my wardrobe. And what better time to do that than now?! Shannon from Tommy John recently reached out to me and asked if I would share some of my wardrobe spring cleaning tips. I thought it was a wonderful idea and here are some of my tips on how to spring clean your closet!
3 Ways to Spring Clean Your Closet

1. Throw it in the trash.
First, one way to spring clean your closet is by tossing old clothes.
In my move towards minimalism, I categorize my clothes into three categories — to throw away, to keep, or to donate.Β If I no longer desire that piece of clothing and am unable to donate it, it automatically goes in the trash. This goes for any clothes with holes, rips, or stains beyond repair. There’s no way you can wear that again and I’m sure no one would want to buy it from a thrift store!
2. Keep the essentials.
Next, I keep the essentials while cleaning out my closet.
When deciding which clothes to keep, I always tell myself, “If you’ve worn it within the last year, keep it.Β If you haven’t, toss it.”
While I’m trying to be more minimalistic, I need to let go of my hoarder ways. Do I really need three black and white striped shirts? How many flannel shirts do I need to keep? When cleaning out my closet, I focus on the essentials. IΒ doΒ like to stay up-to-date with trends but I believe a minimalist wardrobe should consist of timeless pieces that you can wear on different occasions. Especially for guys, I prefer when they keep it to the basics. V-necks, henleys, boxers and briefs in white, gray, black, and blue look great on any guy!Β Tommy John has a great collection of comfortable essentials for guys. Definitely check it out!

3. Donate it.
Another rule I consider while cleaning out my closet is, “If it’s in good condition but you haven’t worn it in over a year, donate it.“
There are a few items of clothing I only wore a few times and got tired of them very fast. Or those few shirts I bought on clearance but never wore because they didn’t fit. If it’s not ruined or damaged, I’m sure someone will be happy to stumble upon it at Goodwill. Plus, you’ll be able to claim your donations on your tax returns.
Conclusion of Ways to Spring Clean Your Closet
If you’re looking to konmari your closet or start spring cleaning, I hope you find my tips beneficial. Just remember the three simple tips: toss what you don’t need or use anymore, keep the essentials, and donate if it’s still in good conditions. And most importantly, have fun while you do it!

Sometimes this is the hardest thing to do! I know I won’t ever use some, but I love to wait for the time I slim down to use some dresses again. And I never do, it just piles up haha

beautyglossipsRight? I’ve been out of high school for so long and I FINALLY got rid of my prom dresses. Clutter just stresses me out. If it doesn’t bring me happiness or if I haven’t worn it within the last year, it needs to go!
Thanks for visiting and liking my blog. Have a good day! x
