3 Inspiring Girl Bosses Who Have Impacted Me

Happy International Women’s Day, everyone! Today is also A Day Without a Woman, a general strike organized by the same people responsible for the Women’s March. To celebrate, I’m sharing a list of girl bosses who’ve inspired me. Whether they’re artists or entrepreneurs, they’ve used their platform for a good cause and have empowered me (and other women). These girl bosses are very admirable women and I aspire to someday make an impact like they did. Keep reading to learn more about the three inspiring girl bosses who have impacted me to become the woman I am today!

1) Audrey Hepburn

While most girls grew up idolizing Marilyn Monroe, I admired Audrey Hepburn. She’s most known for her roles in classic films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday. A lesser-known fact about Audrey is that she dedicated the later years of her life to humanitarian work. In fact, she was an ambassador for the nonprofit organization, UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund), which aids women and children in developing countries. All in all, Audrey is the very reason why I’ve always wanted to volunteer abroad and work with a nonprofit organization.

2) Sophia Amoruso

Secondly, Sophia Amoruso is most recognized as the face of Nasty Gal and the author of #GIRLBOSS. But did you know Nasty Gal all started with Sophia selling vintage clothing on eBay? In 2016, the success of Nasty Gal earned Sophia a spot on Forbes’ list of America’s richest self-made women. Unfortunately, Nasty Gal recently filed for bankruptcy but that isn’t the end of Sophia’s endeavors. She’s been putting more of her efforts towards Girlboss, the site that stemmed from her debut book with the same name. Recently, she organized the inaugural Girlboss Rally in LA. And in April, Netflix will be streaming the original comedy series, Girlboss. So far, Sophia is just getting started and she has inspired me to be my own boss.

3) Bethany Cosentino

Lastly, Bethany Cosentino is the singer, songwriter, and guitarist of one of my favorite bands, Best Coast. But Bethany is more than her music. She did an interview with the Daily Show and talked about sexism in the music industry. If you follow her on Twitter, you’ll learn that she loves Drake, despises Trump, and is a strong advocate for Planned Parenthood. Recently, she organized a benefit concert where all proceeds went to Planned Parenthood and I was lucky to be in attendance. Plus, she brought notable female musicians like Veruca Salt and Liz Phair on stage. I absolutely admire Bethany for using her platform for a good cause. She fights for the rights of all women and I feel like we could learn a thing or two from Bethany.
