2018 Recap and 2019 Word of the Year

At the beginning of 2018, I published a post with my 5 goals and resolutions. I think I did quite well at accomplishing those goals and resolutions. I learned to be more mindful of my thoughts and actions. I also learned to stop striving for perfection and to let go of things I cannot control. I became more comfortable in my own skin and more confident without wearing any makeup. I let myself be more vulnerable and open in my relationships with others. I got better at managing my money and improved my financial well-being.

But there are still some things I didn’t accomplish in 2018… like publishing consistent content on both MagickGal and Avec Valerie. Or apply to grad school. And that’s why it’s so crucial to evaluate and revise your goals as needed. You evaluate what worked and what didn’t. If goals weren’t met, you revise your plan of action. Altogether, 2018 was a successful year of growth and stability for me. Now it’s time to move forward and do better in 2019.

2019 Word of the Year

Every year, I write down my resolutions in my planner but I noticed they were usually the same thing. This year, I decided to do something different. For 2019, I decided to focus on a word to be the overall theme of the year. After reflecting on my accomplishments in 2018 and contemplating on what I want out of 2019, I decided that my word of the year will be “abundance.”

While Googling “abundance,” I stumbled upon some pages about living an “abundant life.” The term comes from the Bible verse, John 10:10b, and refers to abounding fullness of joy and strength for mind, body, and soul. That idea resonated with me and I realized that’s exactly what I want in 2019 — abounding fullness of joy and strength in all areas of my life.

What’s your word of the year?
