Hi everyone! After about half a year of an unannounced (and unplanned) hiatus, I am finally getting back into blogging. The last six months have flown by and so much has happened. I felt like I was spreading myself too thin among different priorities. I had to take a step back and refocus on myself. Now I am ready to get back into blogging and keep up with it. But before we start, allow me to re-introduce myself with recent life updates and upcoming blog changes.
Life Updates and Blog Changes
This month marks two years since I started working at my corporate job. I started as a part-time accounts payable clerk with absolutely no background in accounting. Eventually, I learned the ropes of the position and became a full-time bookkeeper with my own portfolio to manage. Some months of the year (especially year-end and tax season) proved to be hectic and stressful. Some weekends, I worked overtime to meet certain deadlines. I was stressed and sleep deprived; work was one of the reasons why I stepped away from blogging. But it was all worth it because in March, I got a $2 raise. Although I have a decent job with nice hours and benefits, I know I shouldn’t settle just yet. I still need to focus and work towards going to grad school.
I know I’ve said it before but I mean it this time — I’m going to do what it takes to get into grad school and to advance my career. The first time I applied, I failed to complete my applications because I didn’t have to required amount of letters of recommendation. This was all because I didn’t reach out to past professors. I kept making up excuses for myself such as “Work is getting in the way of applying” or “My professors won’t remember me.” The truth behind it all is that I’m scared. My fear of failure has been preventing me from applying. But I need to get overcome that fear so I can work towards success. And thank goodness I have a wonderful support system to encourage me.
Speaking of support systems… I guess it’s time to let everyone know that I’ve been dating someone. John and I met 10 years ago as freshman in undergrad. Over the last decade, we’ve been living our own lives but reconnected last summer when he started his residency program. We’ve been dating for a year now and he’s one of the most caring, compassionate, and supportive people I know. I constantly worry about grad school and how it would affect our relationship. But he always motivates me to strive for my best, even if it takes me somewhere else and causes change for the both of us.
While change within my relationship with John is still pending, I have decided to make some changes to my blog. Between working full-time, trying to go back to school, dating, and writing for both Avec Valerie and MagickGal, I felt like I was spreading myself too thin. It was the exact reason why I took a break from blogging; I was overwhelmed. To prevent myself from burning out again, I have decided to alternate posting schedules between Avec Valerie and MagickGal. Posts for Avec Valerie will be published every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month while my posts for MagickGal will be published every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.
With that being said, welcome back to Avec Valerie! I hope you look forward to future posts as much as I do. Check back in two weeks for the next post. Until then…
